Alice in Wonderland remains a favorite story. Navigating an underground world with a rabbit was my earliest experience with surrealism. The juxtaposition of shapes, images, scale, and logic mimic the perceptions encountered when defining oneâs own reality⦠where one can create mental exercises for amusement of for more serious contemplation.
I often find myself immersed in parallel worlds of opposites: opposites in culture, politics, religion, justice, gender, and other aspects of the human condition.
From the perspective as a 4th generation Chinese American woman, my work often addresses the impact of legislation on our women and their families. A law of physics says âfor every action there is an equal and opposite reactionâ. Using this as a point of departure, and the use universal symbolism I hope my art might lead to mutual understandings between cultures when there are opposing forces at work.
