The Maury Island Marine Park was once a working gravel mine and was scheduled to be again until a unified front of various island groups prevented Glacier NW from getting their way. It is now a place with a unique topography that makes me feel like I'm in California. It's a great place to watch cargo ships go by on their way to the Port of Tacoma.
