First Friday, August 6th has new shows of ceramics and jewelry opening in the VCA Gallery and also new outdoor installations in VCA’s Heron Meadow. Artist reception is Friday, 5:00pm – 8:00pm. Dance performances in the Heron Meadow are 7:00pm and 8:30pm.

Thirteen clay artists have come together for a grand group show for VCA’s Summer Arts Fest. These artists bring beauty to practical items such as serving bowls, platters, casserole dishes, mugs, vases, and sushi plate set with condiment bowls.  There are also decorative tiles and porcelain goddess figurines. Come see what might be perfect for your home by artists Abraham McBride, Barbara Wells, Chris Beck, Dave Olsen, Gale Lurie, Irene Otis, Jane Neubauer, Karen Fevold, Lin Holley, Marla Smith, Mary Hosick, Mary L Robinson, and Roxanne Thayer.

Marie Higuera is showing a collection of her hand made jewelry made primarily of sterling silver, and incorporating precious and semi-precious stones, glass, brass, and fine silver.  All elements of each piece are fabricated, forged, fused or formed by hand.

Over/Growth is six (6) medium to large scale outdoor installations in VCA’s Heron Meadow (west of the Kay White Hall) about our re-engagement with the natural world after a long period of isolation. For Over/Growth, the challenge put out to island artists was to design and build a site specific, themed installation that creatively uses natural materials. The selected artists include Allison Trundle Crain, Nate Clark, Odin Lonning, Justin Brandimarte, and Over/Growth producers Leslie Zenz and Cyra Jane.

These new exhibitions join current shows which opened July 23 and include art by Annette Messitt, Renee Jett, Deborah Taylor, Sophia Krikawa, Donna Liberty, Harmony Kellogg, Rachell LordKenaga, Maija McKnight, Robin Mallory, Robert Thomas, Andrea Bellon, Michael Brinker.
