These works are from a series I call "The Chrysanthemum Veil". They are explorations of my complicated relationship to my identity as an Asian American woman. Using traditional Japanese images as a starting point, I mirror and multiply them so that their forms become both an abstraction of themselves, and something new. I then use decorative kimono patterns on top of these drawings to further obscure it's appearance. These layers convey my own confusion toward my cultural heritage as well as an expression of how we are perceived.
