Trust Women and My Body, My Decision are inspired by the Post-Roe era we live in⦠where women, children and all who can get pregnant are robbed of reproductive rights, bodily autonomy and healthcare decision making power. Both works are classically inspired as my feminist take on Michelangeloâs David statue. David, the underdog took down the giant, Goliath. My re-imagined David is a woman, taking on the Patriarchy, as symbolized by the American Flag.
Trust Women shows despair that our freedom has been taken by the government.
My Body, My Decision assumes the classical David pose, ready for the battle. Her weapon of choice, a symbol of my own activism, is a Pro-Choice message-hanger that I hang on the Ohio Statehouse iron gates.
In both works, Iâve painted foreboding and threatening coat hangers that pierce the flag and festoon the background.
