cotton warp, handspun wool weft
Artist Statement: My tapestries, woven with handspun wool weft on cotton warp, reflect my admiration for the land and waterscapes of the Pacific Northwest. I explore everything from the hidden territory of the unconscious in the depth of the ocean to the infinity of the skies. In my weaving I take advantage of the tactile properties of natural fiber and its unique richness of color and texture. Having chosen to work within the technical limitations of flat tapestry, my goal is to create pieces that are both painterly and textile-like. Iâm drawn to the long history and cultural traditions of weaving and aim to explore, sustain and share these traditions by combining centuries old techniques with modern imagery.
