Lilith - the biblical baddie first married to Adam, now vilified and celebrated as the goddess of abortion - is a character whose mythos has evolved over years as a powerful example of opting out - out of the garden, out of constraints that seek to seize agency. As a non-binary, genderqueer person, I see Lilith not only as an inspiring religious anarchist, but a reminder that our identities and purposes must be self-defined.
In my anger about Roe and frustration at the erasure of non-binary and trans experiences from abortion narratives, I have returned to the pile of zines I have carried with me since college - articles on gender and patriarchy and DIY handbooks on STIs, reproductive health, and abortion passed through centuries. This bouquet is created through these zine pages - full of knowledge, support and historical solidarity, with Angelica, Blue Cohosh, Queen Anneâs Lace among others, layered over their words.
